Imagine opening Instagram, TikTok, or Snapchat and seeing a mental health warning. Would you scroll past it? Would it make you pause? Standford researchers found that health warnings were perceived as more effective at discouraging social media use than a simple reminder to take a screen break. Messages about mental health, depression and anxiety resonated particularly strongly.
